Prime Factors Announces Compatibility with the Next Generation Thales Hardware Security Module

BCSS by Prime Factors reduces the programming required for secure card issuing and processing via the Thales payShield® 9000

Eugene, OR – October 13, 2009 – Prime Factors announces that its Bank Card Security System (BCSS) works with the payShield® 9000, a newly released Thales hardware security module (HSM). BCSS significantly reduces the programming necessary to use the payShield 9000 for secure card issuing and processing.

Designed specifically for the payments market, the Thales payShield 9000 is tamper-resistant and processes up to 1,500 transactions per second, the best performance in the industry. payShield 9000 is also backward compatible with the Thales HSM 8000 and RG7000 product lines. BCSS by Prime Factors works exclusively with these Thales HSMs.

BCSS customers are some of the largest secure payment card manufacturers, issuers and processors in the business. Thales is the dominant HSM vendor for the payments market.

"Our support for Thales payment HSMs spans 15 years," said Prime Factors President Patrick Riley. "We are extremely pleased with the new functionality and high throughput. Together, BCSS and the payShield 9000 provide the most secure environment for manufacturing secure cards and verifying security codes and PINs."

BCSS reduces custom programming by building host commands necessary for the payShield 9000 to create encrypted keys, managing Ethernet (TCP/IP) communication and storing a database of encrypted keys created by the payShield 9000. BCSS has a library of subroutines that handles more than 100 functions that access the Thales HSMs and thus eliminates the need to know Thales' proprietary host commands. This makes it easier to issue calls from popular programming languages. The subroutines include those that call the payShield 9000 to create and verify security codes such as CVVs, CVCs, CSCs, PVVs, PINs, etc.

BCSS also includes subroutines for the payShield 9000 that support transaction switching and verification environments. The two perform functions such as PIN translation, PIN changes, verification of PINs and card security codes, and EMV transaction processing, including secure messaging to modify active cards.
