Client Satisfies PCI Audit Issue with Field Level Encryption

A long-time client ran into a problem during its annual PCI audit but the fix was an easy one. We helped this global financial services company quickly implement AES 256-bit, field-level encryption to protect account numbers as stipulated by PCI.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requires protection of stored cardholder data, and encryption of the data when it is transmitted across open, public networks. For our client, account numbers needed to be protected at the appropriate level.

Field-level encryption provides continuous protection of the sensitive fields as they moved across internal applications and databases, and thus our client's PCI audit issue was solved. By only encrypting specific fields, customer information can be used by those in the organization who need it to do their jobs.

Now when a customer makes a request for a PIN, the sensitive information is protected as it flows through UNIX and mainframe file servers located across the United States.
